Inti Raymi 2020

This is a legendary tradition in Peru that brings us closer to our origins, the Inti Raymi festival; every 24th of june about 50 thousand inhabitants of the Tahuantinsuyo (former inca empire) arrived in the Imperial city, to show the God Inti (Sun) the eternity and total surrender of their children, with submission and respect.
This party was celebrated to worship the Sun, which they considered not only as their God, but also a guardianship and protector, which provided them with heat and energy to carry out their agricultural activities. This party marks the beginning of the winter solstice and the appearance of the Inca ruler, along with all the scenic display that accompanies this ceremony, is the most expected by locals and foreign visitors who come amazed to appreciate this party in the "Navel of the World", Cusco.
This ceremony is the most important celebration of the andean world that cannot be described with words. It is necessary to live it and celebrate it in this magical land.

SCHEDULE:

On June 24th, the meeting will be held on Av. El Sol in front of the Qorikancha Museum.

  • 9:00 am. The Qorikancha (Golden temple): In the Inca era it was the main temple dedicated to the sun.
  • 11:00 am. The main square (the old Auqaypata or warrior's square): During the incanato, the ceremony took place entirely in the middle of the great ushnu or ceremonial platform.
  • 13:00 pm. Saqsaywaman (derives from the Quechua terms "saqsay" and "waman" which translated into english means "satiate yourself hawk"). This impressive archeological center is at 3,450 meters above sea level and one kilometer from the Inca neighborhood of Qolqanpata.
